5.08 Free Choice Blog

In this Free Choice Blog, I will be reviewing The Book Thief By: Marcus Zusak.  For starters, I LOVED THIS BOOK.  I thought that this book was very well written and had a great story line. The Book Thief was about a nine year-old  girl named Liesel  Meminger who grew up in the 1930s during the rule of Hitler. Not to mention she also lived in Nazi Germany at the time. She was adopted by the Hubbermans, a poor family with the contents of an older couple who's children had grown. Their names were Hans and Rosa Hubberman. From the start Liesel and Hans had a special connection. When she had first came to the Hubberman house, Hans had discovered Liesel's book; The Grave Diggers Handbook. Of course Hans was startled when he discovered a young girl with such an odd book. Liesel was illiterate and she needed to go to kindergarten so she was behind all of the other kids. Hans started to teach Liesel to read in the middle of the night so Rosa would not find out. (Rosa was not exactly little miss sunshine.)  When she moved in with the Hubbermans, she met a boy named Rudy. Rudy and Liesel were instantly best friends. The Hubberman family took in a Jew that was hiding from the Fuhrer and hid him in their basement. The Jews name was Max Vandenberg and he had hair like feathers. he inspired her to use words in every possible way. Liesel's life was pretty good at that time.
